Peter and Pamela Mullin Sculpture Studio
Occidental College
Completion 1996
Eagle Rock (Los Angeles)
4,000 square feet

The new 4,000 square-foot Mullin art and sculpture teaching studio, which presents a flexible layout with a high-bay structure housing welding and "clean" studios, a faculty office studio, 600 square-foot teaching gallery, outdoor work space and loading dock, replaced an off-campus facility.

The architecture responds to the geometry of two intersecting streets with a rotation of wall and roof planes. The statement is industrial, expressing an aesthetic integrity in functional spaces with galvanized metal, concrete block and wood. Designed in collaboration with the Santa Monica-based architecture firm, Hodgetts + Fung, the studio speaks boldly to Occidental College's long-term commitment to the arts.
