Remodel space: 3,606 square feet
Outdoor plaza: 12,000 square feet
The design for the renovation was based on the goal of creating a
more visible and dynamic entry. The dramatic new entrance and adjoining
20,000 square-foot plaza re-orients the art museum to face major campus
landmarks, Storke Tower and University Center. The plaza is based
on the pattern of the cross-section of a nautilus shell, referring
to the spectacular, but under-utilized siting of the campus on the
Pacific Ocean. The spiral design is enhanced by nine Italian cypress
trees. The new, unified space is intended to create a gathering place
where students can interact and enjoy views of the lagoon and ocean
beyond. |
